Bigamia comes from the compound Greek word for “Bis” which refers to “twice” and “Gamos” for marriage, together they form “double marriage”. Thus, it can be determined that bigamy is when a person marries for the second time without having legitimately dissolved the first marriage, thus causing a simultaneous double union.
