The Latin word vaticinĭum came into our language as a prediction. It is an omen, a hunch, a prediction or a prophecy. For example: “According to the journalist’s forecast, the official candidate will prevail in the vote”, “The economists’ forecasts for the second semester are not very optimistic”, “My forecast came true! Uncle Hector was late again.
Forecasts can be comments made without much analysis or software support. In this case, they are predictions made in an informal context: “My prediction is that I will beat you three to zero: I am unbeatable playing PlayStation”, “I will cook a delicious dinner and prove that your prediction about my cooking skills was wrong”, “Enough of predictions: let’s wait for the draw to start and then we will know who will be the winner.
Sometimes the predictions are associated with mystical or supernatural powers. It is known as “Nostradamus Predictions”, in this sense, a series of watercolors created by the seer Nostradamus (1503 – 1566), in which there are those who believe that the author anticipates future events. Likewise, we cannot ignore that what are considered predictions made by members of the Mayan civilization have also gained great prominence in our current society. Specifically, among the most significant are the following:
– On December 21, 2012, the world of materialism and existing hatred would end.
-The temperature of the planet will change and will bring important changes at the climatic and geological level.
-The solar eclipse of August 11, 1999 would make society change to synchronize with the world, with the universe.
– There will be a noticeable melting of ice at the poles.
-It is indicated that there will be a significant risk for all humanity since a comet will approach Earth.
– There will be a new harmony among human beings. For many, the predictions of the Mayans are pure speculation because many of those indicated did not come true. However, for others they are very successful, which is why they value those they carry out for 2017 and that have been published by scholars in charge of interpreting their legacy:
-There will be important changes at the political level throughout the world and especially in Latin America.
-Numerous earthquakes, hurricanes and tornadoes will occur.
-There will also be a lot of rain and flooding.
-Society in general will also change notably due to these transformations that will take place at the political level. “Vaticinia de Summis Pontificibus”, on the other hand, are texts written in Latin that refer to the elections of popes of the Catholic Church.
They can also be stated as predictions for predictions that are made with scientific or rational criteria. When a meteorologist, after analyzing the information provided by satellites and other instruments, anticipates what the weather will be like in the coming days, it can be said that he offers a forecast. While these predictions may fail, they are developed based on systematic study and proven knowledge.
