Information is an organized set of data that, based on its interpretation and rational use, can become knowledge. A text, in turn, is a coherent set of statements that form a unit of meaning and have a communicative intention.
These two definitions allow an approximation to the notion of informative text. These texts aim to convey reality objectively, since they seek to publicize a fact, situation or circumstance as it happened. Objectivity is sought with the use of denotative language (which admits a single meaning) and the absence of emotions or affective expressions. For example: “Boca Juniors beat River Plate 2-0” is an informative text. On the other hand, “A great Boca Juniors gave a game lesson to the apathetic River Plate by 2 to 0” is a text that goes beyond the informative, since certain concepts (“great”, “game lesson”, “ apathetic”) are purely subjective. .
Specifically, we can establish that the language of this type of text can also be characterized by the following signs of identity:
It must be very precise. What we mean by this is that you should leave nothing to ambiguity. It has to be clear, direct and without relying on resources such as metaphors or double interpretations.
Correct. In this case, it means that you cannot allow any type of error to appear, neither spelling nor syntax.
Perfect use of paragraphs. In any informative text, different types of paragraphs can be used, specifically three: descriptive, expository and comparison. When using any of them, you must choose to know how to configure them correctly based on what you want to transmit at any given time. In addition to all this, we have to make it clear that there is another set of basic rules about what the structure and essence of this kind of text is. Thus, it should be emphasized that, as a general rule, the most important thing about them goes at the beginning and that what they tell us is something real that happened in the past or has happened now. Where can we find this type of text, the informative one? In many places. Thus, for example, they are those on which newspapers, magazines or encyclopedias are based. In any of these three different publications we have before us texts whose sole and main function is to inform us about a specific fact in the simplest, clearest and most explanatory way possible. Informative text, on the other hand, does not follow any aesthetic. In general terms, it can be said that it is not focused on the form, but on the content, which must be presented with cohesion and coherence so that the reader can correctly interpret the information. Therefore, in informational texts, metaphors and linguistic devices that can lead to misinterpretation are ignored. The exposition, description and comparison appear within the structure of the informational text, which usually has a short introduction, a longer development and a conclusion similar to the length of the introduction.
