The adjective gloomy, which derives from the Latin term tetrĭcus, is used to describe something extremely serious or very sad or gloomy. The gloomy, therefore, provokes disgust and generates chills.
For example: “I don’t like this hotel: I find it gloomy”, “The cries of the mother upon seeing her dead son were gloomy”, “While walking through the house, the investigator made a gloomy discovery. “Darkness is always associated with something negative. Suppose a political leader is suspicious of the future of a country because of the decisions he is making by the current government. This person believes that certain policies, such as cutting the education budget and raising taxes, will cause an economic crisis that can lead to a social explosion. It is also common for what causes fear or terror to be classified as dark. An abandoned house in the middle of a forest, with boarded up windows and a broken hammock near the door, can be grim. People looking at such a house may have unpleasant feelings and even assume that terrible things have happened inside the house (such as a murder, to name one possibility). Regarding this example, it is necessary to add that the concept of darkness also refers to death, it evokes this idea in the observer. For this reason, the term is commonly used to describe abandoned and dilapidated buildings, dark graveyards, and any other setting where violent deaths or attacks have occurred. Dark mood rightly refers to unpleasant and usually death-related situations. In some countries there is talk of black jokes, although the joke is only a format that can have this type of humor, which can be expressed through a photograph or a drawing, for example. The main purpose of black humor is to cause humor to those who appreciate it, despite presenting an unfortunate or sad situation, in which the characters suffer a terrible fate. Another interpretation of the expression “dark mood” can take advantage of a little used meaning of the first term: humor is the name that represents each liquid that is part of each living organism. In this way, it can be said that “a dark humor began to emerge from the corpse”, to refer to the unpleasant characteristics of the liquid, such as its viscous appearance and its unbearable smell, without neglecting its undeniable relationship with death.
Dark, on the other hand, can be something that works very badly or does not do its job: “The cell phone service in this area is murky: it is almost impossible to make a call or receive messages. In this case, the use of the word does not exactly correspond to its meanings, but rather serves to emphasize or exaggerate the poor conditions in which something is found or the deficiencies of a service.
