What are the different types of input surfaces?

Sidewalk surfaces can add value to a property and improve the overall aesthetic. If incorporated as part of the landscaping, the driveway should be unobtrusive and blend in with the surrounding environment. Types of driveway surfaces include concrete, pavement, solid surface, gravel, and gravel.

Concrete sidewalk surfaces are poured into a solid slab with joints several feet apart. Joints must allow for expansion and prevent cracking. The most economical option is usually the traditional gray, which does not have any added hue. For more decorative concrete, colors can be added to the mix before the slab is poured or decorative patterns can be stamped into the concrete after it is poured, but while it is still wet. For exposed aggregate surfaced concrete, gravel or pebbles are added to the surface before the poured concrete sets to create a textured surface rather than a solid one.

Some sidewalks are made of concrete.

Pavers are another option for driveway surfaces and can be made from concrete, brick, or natural stone. Concrete pavers are often the most economical paving option and are available in a variety of sizes, shapes, and colors. Brick pavers are a traditional choice and are still seen in many historic cities as street pavers. Natural stone is usually the most expensive option and can be cobblestone or slate paving. Due to cost, this option is often used for walkways or patios rather than full sidewalk surfaces.

Solid driveway surfaces, such as asphalt, are one of the most common road paving options. Asphalt only comes in black and must be sealed. If a sealer is not used, water can seep into the asphalt and freeze. Expansion caused by frozen water can cause asphalt to crack and break.

Gravel is also an inexpensive option for creating driveway surfaces. Often used for long driveways or large parking areas, gravel is a surface of loose stones on a solid base. Gravel comes in many colors and sizes and allows water to drain into the ground instead of retaining puddles on the surface of the garage.

Interlocking pavers are generally ideal for use in driveways.

Crushed stone is similar to gravel in that it is loose stone on a solid base. It is different because gravels are larger stones that form an uneven surface. Crushed stone surfaces are made of much smaller stones that form a more solid surface than gravel. Crushed stones come in a variety of colors and can be moderately or finely crushed.
