Box-type switches are closed at one or both ends.
A wrench, also known as a crescent wrench or ring spanner, is a specially designed wrench that fits on one or both ends and is made to bypass a specific type of nut or bolt. The wrench is designed to loosen bolts with a specific number of sides, such as six or 12. The wrench’s design allows it to be adjusted to turn the bolt even in tight spaces where movement is limited.
Socket wrenches can be used to secure threaded screws, which have a hex head.
Wrenches are used to allow the user to loosen a bolt or nut that they would not normally be able to loosen with their bare hands. The wrench can be bent at either end at an angle to make it easier to turn the screws. The angle of the wrench and the twisting motion apply additional force with less effort to the user’s end. It also creates a stronger grip around the latch, whereas if the user tried to use their bare hands, their fingers would simply slip off the latch.
Screwdriver ends are included and are usually placed on both ends instead of one. When in use, the circular end slides over the screw and the wrench is turned. The proper key must be used or it will not work. Screws have a specific number of sides that the wrench holds to turn. Using a wrench designed for bolts or nuts with fewer or more sides than the wrench was designed for means the wrench will be either too big or too small.
While the socket wrench is usually double ended, other variations are available. For those who need a more versatile tool, a standard wrench can be combined with a crescent wrench. One end will be closed while the other end will be open in a traditional wrench format. This allows one worker to install different types of screws without stopping to change tools. You simply turn the key when you need access to the other end.
More expensive versions of this wrench are available, with more options and some that are easier to turn or fit into tight spaces. However, for the entry level worker, the traditional key will work. Depending on the job, you may want to purchase a different sized set of wrenches to ensure you always have the correct size for whatever type of screw you come across.
