A program group is a group of programs that are related in some way. This could include a set of items already installed on most computers or a software package with programs to help you complete a variety of similar tasks. Groups can include office groups or project groups, as well as pre-installed sections of a computer’s main menu.

Click on the “Start” menu of any Windows®-based operating system and you will see several examples of program groups. For example, the “Accessories” category has a dropdown menu. In the menu, there are several programs under this category, including a painting program, a calculator, and other related programs.
Most software applications also come in a bundle of programs. This could mean a full suite of programs that help complete related tasks, such as office software packages, or a main program along with an uninstaller and additional utilities. Design software can also come in groups of programs that include basic drawing programs, template programs, web design programs, and others.
There are many benefits of having these groups. The most obvious benefit is that programs are easier to find when they are organized in groups. Users can navigate computer systems better and with less clutter when software applications are easier to find and more accessible. As long as you understand what a program is and what it does, you can quickly place it in its designated program group.
Another benefit is related to these groups that come as part of a set of packages. Buying multiple programs together is usually cheaper overall than buying each program separately. Software bundle packages often come on one disk rather than multiple disks, making it easy to keep track of both the package and the disk.
Almost any program can easily fit into a program group. If a new program does not automatically join a group, you can manually create groups by placing programs and files in designated folders. This allows for complete customization and better organization in creating efficient groups.
To organize a new group of programs, a user can right-click on the desktop and choose to create a new folder. The folder can have any name and programs can be added by clicking and dragging them into the folder. This allows any program to be part of a group based on user preferences and requirements.
