The first thing to do to know the meaning of the term vase is to start by discovering its etymological origin. In this case, we can say that it is a word that derives from Latin, since it is the result of the sum of these two elements of that language:
-The noun “vasum”, which can be translated as “container”.
-The suffix “-ija”, which is used as a diminutive.
A bowl is a concave element that is usually used to serve food, whether solid or liquid. These pieces are also used for decorative purposes and to store different types of objects. For example: “When I arrived at the refuge they offered me a pot of chickpea soup”, “The young man hid the money in a pot and left the place”, “The aborigines collected pearls and then washed them in pots with water”.
Containers produced by man for more than 12,000 years, as can be inferred from various archaeological finds. Many ancient peoples who were masters of pottery made clay or earthen pots. There have also been, throughout history, metal pots, stone pots, ceramic pots, plastic pots, and others. In general, a container can be said to be any container that has the capacity to contain something. There are even improvised pots or pots made with elements that were not born as pots: if a person is in charge of digging up a watermelon, he can use the fruit as a pot. It is interesting to know that there are different types of classifications of vases, although among the most significant at a historical-artistic level is the one that classifies them as follows:
– Tubular container, which, as its name suggests, is shaped like a tube.
– Belliform vessel, which has a structure similar to that of an inverted bell. This is so important that it even shaped the so-called bell-shaped vessel culture, which developed in the Chalcolithic. Objects of this type that prove their value have been found in Great Britain, Hungary and even in the Iberian Peninsula. In this one, in particular, the most significant are found in cities like Carmona or Ciempozuelos.
-The stem vase known as a bowl, which has its origin in Prehistory.
-The vase that works as a urinal, that is, as a urinal. We must not forget that, throughout history, various civilizations have used the vessel as a funerary element. This would be the case, for example, in Ancient Greece, where it was used as an ossuary or even as a storage place for the oils that were established as offerings to the deceased. One of the most famous ships in the world is the Portland ship, a piece that would have been manufactured in the Roman Empire during the first century. Made of glass and decorated with a representation of deities and humans, this ship is on display in the British Museum From london.
The Warrior Vessel is in the National Museum of Archeology in Athens. It was made in the 12th century BC. C. and shows several soldiers.
