Coarse (or its feminine version: coarse) is an adjective used to describe a person who lacks literacy, education, or good manners. The concept is also used to refer to what is rude, rustic, rude or coarse.

For example: “I don’t like taking orders from such a rude person, but he is my boss and I have to obey what he says”, “Grandma was a rude woman of few words, although she knew how to show it”. Also known as tuff limestone, tosca is part of the limestone group as it is mainly composed of calcite.

The process of forming a tosca begins with the rain. This water has a reduced amount of carbon dioxide and minerals; when it reaches the ground, it begins to load with carbon dioxide from the activity of bacteria and plants. In this way, the liquid dissolves the limestone rocks as it passes through the underground substrate, taking away the carbonate and calcium. The water then emerges through rivers, waterfalls or springs and loses carbon dioxide, precipitating calcite. Eventually these crystals begin to form a calcareous crust on plants and their overlapping leads to the formation of rough crusts. Finally, “Tosca” is the name of an opera written by Giuseppe Giacosa and Luigi Illica with music composed by Giacomo Puccini, which premiered in 1900 at the Teatro Costanzi in Rome. Its libretto is based on Victorien Sardou’s drama “La Tosca”, published in 1887 in Paris and starring Sarah Bernhardt, one of the great actresses of the time. The dramatic intensity that characterizes this opera by Puccini, as well as the beauty of some of its arias, made it one of the most relevant in the so-called verista repertoire of Italian music, which is characterized by an aesthetic that, at the end of the century XIX and beginning of the century, began to show reality without idealizing it (this movement can also be called “realism”). In the story of Tosca we find some of the elements that most attract the operatic public: love, passion, violence, intrigue and, almost inevitably, death. It is an unforgettable journey that manages to take the emotions of the spectators to the extreme, and in this the development of the characters plays a fundamental role, masterfully achieved both in the protagonists (Floria Tosca and Mario Cavaradossi) and in the antagonists (Barão Scarpia ). This opera is among the three best known by the Italian composer, along with La Bohème and Madama Butterfly.

As for the musical structure of Tosca, it is very different from the division into arias that characterizes many of the most famous operas in history, by composers such as Mozart, Rossini or Verdi, although in line with what Puccini had been developing until then: the speech is continuous and only broken by one or two arias. If we take The Barber of Seville (by Rossini), for example, we will notice that the work is divided into dozens of pieces, all well defined and duly titled for easy identification; Tosca, on the other hand, features wide sections that blend into one another almost imperceptibly. This makes it difficult to interpret any of its parts in the context of a concert; however, his two arias E lucevan le stelle by Mario and Vissi d’arte by Tosca have been sung in innumerable recitals and many tenors and sopranos from all over the world continue to include them in their repertoires.
