What is Sailboat?

Sailboat is a term that refers to the boat that is propelled by the action of the wind on its sails. It should be remembered that the sails are fabrics of different sizes and shapes that are tied to the mast and that are part of a system known as rigging, which allows taking advantage of the impulse provided by the air.

In the nautical field, the term rigging designates the set formed by masts, rigging, sails and patios, all the elements that allow the movement of a boat thanks to the impulse of the wind, whose force is printed directly on the sails, which transmits to the other three components and thus hull thrust is produced.

Below is a brief description of each of the elements mentioned in the previous paragraph, present in the rigging of a sailboat: * Posts: also known as masts, and are located vertically in the body of the boat to support the weight of much of the platform; * Rigging: they are the ropes and ropes that are used to hold or stabilize the other elements of the platform. The firm ones are always stretched and give lateral stability to the sticks, while the furniture can be adjusted in the middle of a maneuver; * Sails: it is the most popular part of the platform, and the only one that is related to the sailboat from the linguistic point of view. They are flexible canvases or canvases of different sizes, depending on the characteristics of the boat; * rods: they are posts that are fixed to the masts crosswise to hold the square sails, for which they are attached from above or below. For example: “My dream is to have a sailboat to sail on the lake”, “An Indian sailboat won the last regatta that was held on this river”, “Yesterday we spent the whole afternoon aboard the sailboat, having fun”. The first sailing ships are believed to have been developed by the Egyptians around 5,000 years ago. They emerged as a means of transport to advance through different waterways, although over time they also began to be used for sports, recreational and military purposes. In addition to the fact that sailboats take advantage of the force of the wind to move, their rigging allows them to sail even against the wind. The equipment also allows you to precisely control the boat in addition to the direction of the wind. A glider is an airplane that has no engine and can fly thanks to aerodynamics. It is also known simply as a glider and was designed in 1877 by Otto Lilienthal; a decade and a half later, he made his first flight.

The glider sailboat has large wings and, like hang gliders and paragliders, is supported and moved solely by the action of the wind. Also like the other two, it is used to practice free flight, as it does not have a motor, and for the sport known as volleyball or sailing. One of its most striking features is that it loses very little height in relation to the distance it is capable of traveling in each flight (this is called glide). In other words, the glider is the most efficient vehicle to fly. The concept of sailboat is also used to name the subject dedicated to the manufacture and sale of sails, according to the dictionary of the Royal Spanish Academy (RAE).
