Tension rods are solid or tubular rods that are usually equipped with some type of spring mechanism. Bars of this type are used for a wide range of purposes, including use with window treatments, chain-link fences, and even various types of gates. Depending on the intended purpose of the tension rod, the spring may be contained within the body of the rod or attached to the outside. There are also bars that do not require the presence of any type of spring and are specifically used to align and hold two different objects as part of a construction process.
One of the most common examples of a tension rod is found in the construction of a chain-link fence. In this application, the bar is typically a solid piece of metal that is threaded through the end of the bonding fabric. The chain link tension bar is then used to stretch the fabric into a taut position and is secured to the door corner, end or post with the help of tension bands. Doing this not only helps keep the fence in position, it also increases the strength and stability of the entire fence.
There are tension bar products designed as exercise equipment. For example, the bar can be built using a spring mechanism that can be adjusted to provide different levels of resistance. Equipment with this type of bar can be used to strengthen the legs or arms. In this application, exercises are performed without weights, making the exercise devices ideal for home use or other areas where training space may be at a premium.
The tension bar is also useful at home. A tension towel rail works well in both small bathrooms and kitchens. A curtain tension rod works well with some window treatment projects, especially those that are intended to fill in a window sill rather than frame the window space. With these types of bars, there is usually an internal spring mechanism that allows you to adjust the length of the bar to the correct dimensions, creating a comfortable fit that allows the bar to stay in place without the need for additional hardware.
Depending on the design and intended purpose of the voltage bar, devices of this type can be relatively inexpensive or quite expensive. Rebar designed for home use can often be found at home improvement or discount retail stores, while wire rebar is available at most building supply stores. Most voltage bars are designed to provide years of service and may not need to be replaced for decades.
