What is social housing?

A house is a closed space with a roof where human beings live. Terms such as domicile, residence, home, and home may be used as synonyms for residence. Social, in turn, is what is linked to society (a community of people who share a culture and interests and who interact with each other).

The idea of social housing can be used in different ways. In general, the expression refers to a good that, in some way, the State delivers to people who do not have access to decent housing by their own means. This means that the state can build social housing for destitute residents. Suppose that a group of families settles on the banks of a stream, making precarious boxes with cardboard and plates. These people do not have the economic resources to leave the settlement and rent or buy a safe and comfortable house. To allow these citizens to improve their quality of life, the government builds a social housing neighborhood and gives it to these people, who can rent the properties at a very low price.

The economic crisis experienced in recent years has meant that many institutions have had to react to provide social housing for the countless families who have lost their jobs and their homes. Thus, agreements were established, for example, in Spain between the autonomous communities and their respective cities to facilitate people’s access to housing of this type. As a general rule, to obtain one of these constructions, the respective application must be submitted and the criteria met with respect to the established requirements. And it is that these social housing units are aimed, above all, at those who remained on the street, are going to be evicted, who are in danger of social exclusion… In addition, there are even numerous municipalities, for example, in Spain. cities that were created to be able to build social housing or even rent other housing with the same definition. All to ensure that your neighbors have a roof over their heads and can count on a great quality of life. In the same way, we cannot ignore that banking entities from different corners of the world did not hesitate to carry out the creation of housing loans of social interest. Its goal is to help people with limited savings by lending them money so they can buy a house or renovate the one they already have. In short, social housing aims to alleviate the housing deficit. Although all human beings have the right to housing, the socioeconomic reality means that this need cannot be satisfied by many individuals. The State, in this context, is involved to restore this right. The construction and management of social housing also corrects the malfunctioning of the real estate market, which leaves many people out.
