The term has different meanings, which will depend on the context, the accompanying word and the etymological source. In the first place, the band, was the term with which the Germans and Italians called people who carried a flag, by way of identification. Hence the use or meaning, from a social point of view, that a gang is a group of people organized (not in a very formal way), supporters or who share an interest or thought.

Also, in the same social context, the term has been used to denote those antisocials and criminals who operate together or in groups. They represent what is known as delinquent or criminal gang (synonym of gang) obedient (generally) to one or more leaders.

On the other hand, the wide ribbon that extends from the right shoulder to the waist, commonly used by officials (such as mayors, governors and presidents) as a demonstration of authority and symbolism and by women who participate in beauty pageants, with which they show the name of the town or country they represent and, in turn, those who remain in the first places receive a band and, of course, the winner.

In music there are also bands, with two different meanings. In the first place, the musical band made up of those who play percussion, string and wind instruments, accompanying the singer. Also, these pop and rock music groups are called bands.

In the military field there are bands, also known as war bands, which are responsible for generating the sounds that accompany military parades.

These bands are made up of wind and percussion instruments and in other commands and groups that guarantee citizen safety, such as police and firefighters, this type of band is also used. Even in educational institutions of different levels these bands were created.

In film productions and television series, all those sounds and musical compositions that are played at different times, throughout the production, constitute what is known as a soundtrack.

On the sports field, the outlined areas at each end of a sports field, which generally mark the end of the permitted field of play, are called the sideline.
