The etymological root of trophic is found in the Greek word trophós, which can be translated as “to feed”. This adjective is used to refer to what is related to nutrition (act and result of nutrition).
Before proceeding, therefore, it is important to know what parenting is. This is the name of the process that allows, through food, to increase the substance of a body. Thanks to nutrition it is possible to repair the sectors that are lost by catabolic actions. The trophic, in short, has to do with these issues. It is common to find the notion of food chain or food chain, which is formed by the successive relationships established by organisms when they feed on each other in a certain order.
The food chain, in this context, is a flow of energy. There is a transfer of nutrients between species that belong to a biological community, where each one feeds on the species that precedes it and, in turn, becomes the food of the species that follows it in the chain. Food chains, on the other hand, are intertwined in a food web. This network is formed with the interactions of food chains and implies the existence of a flow of energy that runs through an ecosystem. The species that, according to their shift or position, are located in an equivalent space of the food chain share the same trophic level. This means that each trophic level assumes a certain location in the flow of energy and nutrients.
